Applications for APIA Searchlight are online! Applications are due on March 6th at 4pm. They can be filled out on your computer and emailed to apiasearchlight@gmail.com.

What is Searchlight?

Searchlight is an annual publication (think of it as a Yellow Pages for the API community) that provides information about the many student/greek/religious organizations, Asian American Studies program, and also local businesses that are API owned and operated.

What do I do as an intern?

  • Organizations - Research the many API organizations on campus
  • ASA section - Interview ASA faculty, staff, graduate + undergraduate students about their campus experiences.
  • Marketing - Market Searchlight to API owned and run businesses in Davis
  • Graphics/Web- Use Adobe InDesign and Dreamweaver to create the physical and web copy (via the new APIASD website)

What do I gain as a Searchlight intern?

  • ASA 92/192 units (optional)
  • Transcript notation from the ICC
  • Collaborating together with co-interns and SL editors to put together a worthwhile publication!
  • Involvement within the API community by interaction with the ASA program, organizations, and businesses.
  • An experience worth remembering.

We are looking for:

  • Motivated individuals with good communication and organizational skills
  • People willing to learn new skills, such as print designing
  • People who are interested and/or want to be involved in the API community
  • You! =]

There will be no general meeting this Wednesday (2/11) but we will be co-sponsoring the API Winter Celebration! It will be in our normal room, but at 7pm instead of 8pm. It's a potluck, so come by for some awesome food! Feel free to bring your own dish too!

We are tabling out at the Quad this week and next (until 2/13) selling pigs, hippos, and roses!! Buy one for your special someone, and even have them delivered on Valentine's Day! Prices are as follows:

1 rose = $4
6 roses = $20
12 roses = $32
Hippo = $4
Pig = $4

Pre-order forms can be downloaded HERE and brought to the AAA table at the Quad! Proceeds will go towards funding our film festival in May.

We're in 2009!! There will be no meeting this week - the first meeting of Winter Quarter will be next Wednesday, January 14th.

An announcement will be sent through email. Send me an email if you'd like to get onto the emailing list. Alternatively, you can check this webpage as we will be posting the first meeting flier as soon as we have it finalized!!

We will not be having our regular AAA general meeting this Wednesday (Nov. 05). Instead, we will be participating in a workshop involving API beauty:

It'll be a great discussion, and will be co-hosted by Cherie! So make sure to come by and check it out.

We will also be hosting a performance by the awesome UC Berkeley improv/theatre group, Theatre Rice!!

Tickets may be purchased at the Freeborn Hall Ticket Office (right outside of the Memorial Union).

AAA is having their first general meeting this Wednesday, October 1st. We are back in Olson 206 at 8PM (for all you older members) and will have free food. So come by, check us out, make some new friends, and learn what AAA is all about!
